KATIE CARROLL

I have always been drawn to the healing power of movement. From taking my first swimming lessons as a kid, to playing team sports in my teens, falling in love with running and training for my first marathon in my 20s, having a regular yoga practice, and then later taking up indoor cycling and discovering HIIT training — a transformation seemed to occur within me every time I closed off the world outside and reconnected my mind with my body and breath.

Simply put, movement and sweat saved me.

In 2015 I took a leap of faith. I decided to follow my heart, leave a successful career working for various tech start-ups in Seattle, Silicon Valley and London, and pursue a full-time career in the world of fitness — and I’ve never looked back.

I'm an NASM-certified Level 2 Group Fitness Instructor, 500hr-certified Yoga Teacher, HFE-accredited Level 3 Pre/Post Natal certified, and an Equinox Pilates Institute-certified Mat Instructor.

I feel strongly that my calling is to help people move their bodies in ways that feel natural, cathartic and fun. What better way to be of service than by sharing something that has helped you?

After spending the better part of 4 years living in London, I left in late 2018 to travel the world with my husband, Jameson. Living out of a suitcase really shakes up your fitness game and finding a new ‘routine’ was not met without its challenges.

Incorporating the lessons learned throughout our travels, we founded Ethos Retreats with the aim to share our passions of movement, mindfulness and motivation with people like you.

I hope to provide you with the motivation to make daily movement a priority. I look forward to meeting (and sweating with) you! x

JAMESON DOWELL

Cooking was always a calming, creative and adventurous process. My dad played a massive role in influencing me from a very young age. He taught me how to cook using fresh ingredients and I grew up with a sense of curiosity for various flavour combinations. It taught me to be adventurous — not just in the kitchen, but in life.

I’ve always had an appreciation for fresh vegetables and even had my own vegetable garden in my 20s.

I’ve experimented with different nutrition approaches for myself over the years, but these days, I’m prioritising a whole food, plant-based diet that features fresh, nutrient-dense ingredients. More and more studies are showing the benefits of eating whole, plant-based foods and that chronic disease and inflammation from eating a typical Western diet can be reversed simply by switching to a plant-based diet.

I believe that my calling is to help people live healthier lives through making smarter, more conscious choices about what they use to fuel their bodies.

After spending close to 4 years living in London, my wife and I decided to pack up our things and go traveling — something I never got the chance to do having worked for the same company for the last 12yrs.
